What is recycled wool?

Recycled wool is made by collecting post-consumer wool garments and post-industrial wool waste, sorting them by colour and fibre type, then shredding and re-spinning them into new yarn. The process requires no dyeing in many cases — colours are blended mechanically — saving significant water and chemical use compared to producing virgin wool.

All the benefits of wool, lower impact

Recycled wool retains the natural properties that make wool so exceptional: temperature regulation, moisture-wicking, odour resistance, and biodegradability. By diverting existing fibres from landfill and reducing demand for new raw material, it closes the loop on one of fashion’s most valuable natural resources.

The Italian town of Prato has been a global centre for wool recycling for over 200 years — a remarkable example of circular industry long before the term existed. Many of the finest recycled wool fabrics in the world still originate here, and several brands in our edit draw on this heritage.

Caring for recycled wool

Hand wash or machine wash on a wool/delicate cycle at 30°C. Lay flat to dry — never tumble dry or wring. Store folded with a cedar block to deter moths. Handle recycled wool with the same care as virgin wool and it will reward you with years of wear.
