What makes cotton organic?
Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or genetically modified seeds. Instead, farmers rely on natural pest control, crop rotation, and composting to maintain soil health — practices that protect local ecosystems, reduce water contamination, and support biodiversity.
Certified organic cotton — such as that carrying the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification — is traceable from field to finished garment, covering not just the fibre but also the dyes, chemicals, and social conditions throughout the supply chain.
Better for skin, better for the planet
Free from chemical residues, organic cotton is naturally softer, hypoallergenic, and gentler on sensitive skin than conventionally grown cotton. It’s breathable, durable, and gets softer with every wash — making it a reliable everyday choice that truly improves over time.
Caring for organic cotton
Machine wash at 30°C or 40°C on a normal cycle. Organic cotton can shrink slightly on first wash, so where possible wash before first wear. Line dry or tumble dry on low. Iron on a medium-high setting while slightly damp for a crisp finish.
The everyday sustainable choice
Organic cotton won’t solve fashion’s challenges alone, but as one of the world’s most widely used fibres, shifting toward organic is one of the most meaningful steps a brand — and a consumer — can take. At HUG, we prioritise brands with credible certification and honest supply chains.
